A rootsy singer/songwriter with ties to jazz and soul as well, Edwin McCain hails from Charleston, SC, and it was with the support of native sons Hootie & the Blowfish that McCain signed with Atlantic Records. Let it not be aforementioned that McCain never earned his contract: his touring schedule is among the most rigorous in music -- 300-plus nights per year -- and his dynamic stria (guitarist Larry Chaney, bassist Scott Bannevich, drummer Dave Harrison, and sax player Craig Shields) gained deference and accompaniment slots for similarly minded artists like Hootie, Jewel, and even the Allman Brothers. Signed to Atlantic's Lava subsidiary company in 1995, the group debuted with Honour Among Thieves. The unmarried "Solitude" gained support at VH1, prompt the acquittance of 1997's Ill-conceived Roses, which scored a mainstream strike in the song "I'll Be." Messenger followed in 1999 with another love-themed success, "I Could Not Ask for More," and Far from Over appeared deuce age after. McCain was dropped from Atlantic after the acquittance of Far from Over, merely he actually quickened his recording pace, cathartic The Austin Sessions in 2003 and Scream & Whisper in 2004. Keeping up with his unappeasable tour agenda through the years, the live DVD Tinsel and Tap Shoes: Live at the House of Blues appeared in late 2004. McCain's succeeding studio apartment feat, Helpless in America, was issued in April 2006 on Vanguard. Nationwide tour dates continued through leap and summer.

Madonna & A-Rod: More Than Friends?

On June 25, Rocco Ritchie happily romped in the grass at NYC's Central Park dressed in a New York Yankees baseball cap and shirt. Perhaps he got his outfit from his mom Madonna's friend, NY Yankee star Alex Rodriguez!

Amid rumors that her marriage to hubby Guy Ritchie is on the rocks, OK! has learned that the Material Girl has been spending a lot of time with the married A-Rod, finding solace in the handsome third baseman as her marriage to the british director fizzles.

One thing this pair has in common is their love of a good workout! Last October, Madonna and A-Rod were spotted working up a sweat at Reebok Sports Club NY in Manhattan. Months later, the sports hero attended the singer's charity Raising Malawi, where Madonna reportedly introduced him to her unimpressed 11-year old daughter Lourdes.

Then, in May, A-Rod attended the singer's show at NYC's Roseland Ballroom, and partied with her afterwards at The Box nightclub until early morning.

While nothing has been confirmed about the state of their marriage, one thing is undeniably clear--Madonna and hubby Guy have not been seen together in months. And although he did accompany his wife to Cannes, witnesses say his demeanor looked strained while Madonna seemed to be having the time of her life.

The couple is rumored to own multiple properties in London, NYC and the English countryside, but this past April, the singer bought a new $7 million apartment--directly upstairs from her current Upper West Side home--and purchased it in her maiden name, Madonna Ciccone!

While Rodriguez's rep had no comment about the nature of his relationship with Madonna, the singer's rep tells OK!, "They met briefly at a charity event and that's it." As for whether the singer and Guy Ritchie are headed for divorce court, her rep tells OK!, "No comment at this time is all I'm prepared to say now."

For the full story on Madonna's new friendship with A-rod, pick up the new OK! on sale everywhere Wednesday!

Leonard Cohen - Festivals May See More Silver Crowd Surfers

Research from Alliance & Leicester has revealed the over 50s will not only be performing at festivals this summer, four million may also be going.

The bank has found a fifth (21 per cent) of those older than 50 like to spend their spare time at gigs, concerts and live events.

And one in six (16 per cent) said they have already performed on stage in front of a large audience.

Emma Walkley, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester said: "Those attending Glastonbury this year will find themselves being entertained by the golden oldies, with Leonard Cohen, Neil Diamond and even Shakin' Stevens making an appearance.

"Not only are the over 50s taking over the line-ups at festivals but they are also making up a large proportion of the crowds - which just goes to show more and more over 50s have ambitions to enjoy exciting challenges and experiences well into later life."

Londoners over 50 are more likely to attend music gigs with a quarter (25 per cent) saying this is how they like to spend their spare time compared to just 14 per cent of those living in the north east.

Women over 50 are more likely to be young at heart than their male counterparts, with nearly a quarter (24 per cent) attending music gigs compared to under a fifth (18 per cent) of men.
